“Not only was my hygienist thorough with my cleaning and with testing for gum and tongue disease, she was a wealth of information past and present about the ADA and it’s new findings. Prevention is the key and that was expressed in a very impressive way. Go Dr.Ritter and all his staff!!!!”

Dr. Schmidt is from a small town in northeast Ohio near Youngstown. He attended Miami University of Ohio and then went on to attend The Ohio State University College of Dentistry where he graduated in 1987. He moved to Baltimore to attend the University of Maryland Dental College where he completed a one year residency in General Dentistry. He then continued in this program as a full time clinical professor before joining his partner Dr. Paul Shires in 1989. Dr. Schmidt continued to instruct in this program on a part time basis until 2017. Because of his commitment to continuing education Dr. Schmidt is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, an organization dedicated to continued learning, where he has earned there Fellowship award status.
One of Dr. Schmidt’s passions is using his skills and knowledge to give back to those who cannot afford or do not have access to quality dental care. He has taken mission trips to southern Russia and several to both northern and southern Thailand with the non-profit organization Smiles on Wings. Currently he works with the organization Medicine Arm In Arm, treating impoverished children in South Africa. On these trips he travels to remote locations in these countries and preforms dental services on these underserved populations. As an off shot of these trips in 2010 Dr. Schmidt began a “Free Dental Day” program in his office. Feeling there is a need for similar services closer to home, once a year Dr. Schmidt recruits several of his colleagues and staff members and friends and opens his office and treats up to 50 patients in a day who would otherwise not be able to afford dental care. He also gets help from his local Towsontowne Rotary club of which he has been a member since 2005.
When he is not doing dentistry Dr. Schmidt keeps himself busy playing golf, staying fit, working in his wood shop, and rooting on all things Ohio State. GO BUCKS!! Dr. Schmidt resides in Harford County with his wife Debbie. He has two daughters Rachel and Kimberly. He has also been blessed with 2 grandchildren – Addison Harper, born in 2013, and Cory Benson, born in 2018. As seen in the picture, they bring him joy every single day.
Office Manager
With 17 years of experience in dentistry, my journey began by working alongside my father to grow his dental practice into a thriving, multi-location success story. For over 15 years, I’ve dedicated myself to managing dental practices, mastering the complexities of dental insurance, and excelling in customer relations and relationship building.
In August 2024, I was fortunate to join the incredible team at Smile Solutions of Baltimore. Working with Dr. Ritter, an outstanding dentist, has been a rewarding experience, and I’m proud to contribute to a practice that prioritizes exceptional patient care and a welcoming atmosphere.
Outside of work, I’m a devoted husband and father of five. On weekends, you can often find me at the local sports fields, cheering on my kids in the various sports they play. I also cherish time with my family, enjoy all things sports, and love discussing my favorite teams—the Washington Commanders and Maryland Terrapins.
Patient Care Coordinator
I am currently a Patient Care Coordinator at Smile Solutions of Baltimore, a role that aligns perfectly with my passion for customer service and patient care. My journey began in college, where I pursued a degree in political science at Bowie State University. During my time there, I developed a strong foundation in communication, research and relationship building which inadvertently sparked my interest in the healthcare field. I initially started working part-time while attending college, where I gained valuable experience in many different areas. These early experiences not only honed my skills but also reinforced my desire to help others, especially during challenging times.
After graduating in December 2022, I was eager to apply my knowledge in a practical setting. I then worked in orthodontics for two years, after which, I transferred to Smile Solutions of Baltimore, where I have continued to grow professionally. Working in this environment never really feels like work. Dr. Ritter, my awesome coworkers and our fabulous patients have made my job so worthwhile and I would not trade them for the world. The knowledge I acquired during my studies, combined with hands-on experience, has been instrumental in my current role.
Just a little about myself: I am a MAJOR foodie and music enthusiast, I can listen to just about any genre of music and I am open to trying any dish at least once. I love to cook and hang out with my best friends and my partner in my free time. I am an avid lover of the color pink and an even more avid lover of going shopping.
I unequivocally consider the folks here at Smile Solutions of Baltimore like family and I cannot wait to see what the upcoming years have in store!
Dental Hygienist
Dental Assistant
With a warm smile and over a decade as a skilled and compassionate dental assistant, Robert “Rob” is all about making people feel great about their dental health. A proud military veteran, Rob served 8 years in the US Navy where he developed his love for dentistry.
A native of Baltimore, Rob is a huge fan of the Ravens and Orioles. When not cheering on his favorite teams, he enjoys hitting the tennis courts and enjoying the fresh air while out running or hiking.
Expanded Functions Dental Assistant
I have been an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant for 14 years, and enjoy what I do. I believe helping patients with their dental care is truly rewarding, and doing lab work is interesting and fun.
I am a cat-loving Scorpio, Mother of 1, and enjoy boxing and outdoor activities in my free time. I was a cook/pastry chef for my first career for 7 years and somehow found my niche in dentistry. Seamlessly transitioning to what my mom calls “from causing cavities to fixing them.”
Be on the lookout for one of my fantastic stories. They’re at least 85% true!
I have enjoyed joining the Smile Solutions team, and look forward to growing with the practice. :-)
